TLDR Hyperbaric oxygen therapy improves hair growth and quality of life in androgenic alopecia patients.
The study investigated the clinical efficacy of hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) therapy combined with conventional treatments (finasteride and minoxidil) for androgenic alopecia (AGA) in 71 patients. The HBO group (38 patients) showed a significantly higher treatment efficacy rate (90.91%) compared to the control group (33 patients) with 70.53% after 6 treatment courses. Both groups experienced a significant reduction in hair loss and an increase in new hair growth, with the HBO group showing better results. Quality of life and depression scores also improved more in the HBO group. Serum levels of free testosterone (FT) and 5α-dihydrotestosterone (5α-DHT) decreased significantly in both groups, but there was no significant difference between the groups post-treatment. The study concluded that HBO therapy could enhance clinical outcomes for AGA patients, reduce hair loss, promote new hair growth, alleviate depressive symptoms, and improve quality of life.
