TLDR HAPLN1 can promote hair growth and may help treat hair loss.
The study investigates the effects of Hyaluronan and Proteoglycan Link Protein 1 (HAPLN1) on hair follicle cell proliferation and hair growth, using male C57BL/6 mice. HAPLN1 was found to be predominantly expressed during the anagen phase and promoted the proliferation of human hair matrix cells. Treatment with recombinant human HAPLN1 (rhHAPLN1) increased levels of TGF-B receptor II and activated the ERK1/2 signaling pathway, leading to earlier entry of hair follicles into the anagen phase. The findings suggest that HAPLN1 could be a potential therapeutic target for promoting hair growth and treating hair loss with fewer side effects compared to current medications. The study involved 6 mice.
