Effect of Fastness, Hair Coating and Hair Protection by Dyeing of Orange Henna

    The study evaluated the effects of orange henna on hair fastness, coating, and protection by testing on decolored hair pieces subjected to 30 shampoo washes. Hair samples were divided into groups, with some treated with oxidizing colorant and others with henna orange powder under different conditions. Results showed that henna-treated hair, particularly with alkali (HnH-B), maintained color better and had thicker hair shafts and higher tensile strength compared to oxidizing colorant-treated hair. The oxidizing colorant resulted in more damage to hair cuticles and weaker tensile strength. The study concluded that henna orange powder, especially under alkaline conditions, provided superior coloring, fastness, and protective effects, likely due to the action of lawsone and luteolin in henna pigments.
