Effect of ethanol extract of plant mixture on hair regeneration in human dermal papilla cells and C57BL/6J mice

    The study from December 3, 2015, demonstrated that a 30% ethanol extract of a plant mixture (EPM) containing various medicinal plants promoted hair growth by increasing the proliferation of human hair dermal papilla cells and inducing an early anagen phase in C57BL/6J mice. EPM was shown to significantly increase growth factors like IGF-1, VEGF, KGF, and HGF, and inhibit 5α-reductase activity, which is implicated in hair loss, in a dose-dependent manner. The study concluded that EPM could be a potential candidate for hair growth promotion, although the number of human cells or mice used in the experiments was not specified.
