Study on Effect of Constant-Release Melatonin on SOX21 Gene

    Jinquan Li
TLDR Constant-release melatonin reduces SOX21 gene expression in goats during the hair follicle resting phase.
The study investigated the effects of constant-release melatonin on the SOX21 gene in Inner Mongolia Cashmere goats over two years. Using Real-time PCR and GAPDH as a housekeeping gene, it was found that SOX21 gene expression was relatively stable across different individuals but was significantly affected by hormones, except during March, April, and May. The study concluded that constant-release melatonin influenced SOX21 gene expression by reducing the stress response to melatonin and downregulating SOX21 expression during the hair follicle telogen phase.

It can be mixed with minoxidil for application, and its effectiveness might be enhanced when used with micro-needling, but results may vary among individuals.
