TLDR High-dose ciclosporin significantly improved a young cat's severe skin condition.
This case study reports on a 1.5-year-old cat with degenerative mucinotic mural folliculitis, a rare and severe skin condition. The cat showed significant improvement after being treated with high-dose ciclosporin (9.3 mg/kg daily), which contrasts with previous reports where cats had poor prognoses and were often euthanized. The treatment led to marked reduction in facial thickening and hair regrowth, although some symptoms recurred when the dosage was tapered. The cat remained in good general condition and survived for 14 months post-treatment, suggesting that high-dose ciclosporin may be an effective treatment for this disease. Further studies are needed to explore the optimal dosage and duration of ciclosporin treatment.
