TLDR AHCC reduces hair loss and liver injury caused by chemotherapy in rodents.
The study investigated the effects of Active Hexose Correlated Compound (AHCC) on chemotherapy-induced side effects in rodents, finding that AHCC significantly reduced alopecia in neonatal rats treated with cytosine arabinoside (Ara-C) and ameliorated liver injury in mice treated with 6-mercaptopurine (6-MP) and methotrexate (MTX). AHCC improved body weight, blood cell counts, liver function, and enzyme activities, suggesting its potential to mitigate chemotherapy-induced side effects and improve patients' quality of life. Further research was recommended to understand its molecular mechanisms and clinical applicability.
