TLDR Ectoin helps prevent cortisone-induced skin problems and supports skin health.
The study demonstrates that Ectoin, an amino acid derivative, effectively mitigates cortisone-induced skin issues and UVB-induced overexpression of 11β-HSD1 without adverse effects on cell viability at concentrations up to 1 mg/mL. Ectoin enhances the expression of key skin barrier proteins and collagen type I while reducing MMP-1 secretion, thereby preserving skin barrier integrity and counteracting skin aging. Mechanistically, Ectoin disrupts glucocorticoid receptor (GR) signaling and inhibits GR phosphorylation, suggesting its potential in treating stress-related skin aging and barrier dysfunction. The research was supported by Bloomage Biotechnology Corporation Limited, with no reported conflicts of interest.
