TLDR Skin patting and iontophoresis with dutasteride gel improved hair growth in people with androgenetic alopecia.
This pilot study evaluated the efficacy and safety of delivering 6% dutasteride gel via skin patting and iontophoresis in 20 adults (10 males, 10 postmenopausal females) with androgenetic alopecia (AGA) unresponsive to standard treatments. After four monthly sessions, significant improvements were observed in hair density and shaft diameter in both frontal and vertex regions, with pull test scores also showing significant improvement. The mean patient satisfaction was 3.4 out of 4, and no adverse events were reported. The study concludes that this method effectively delivers topical dutasteride, suggesting potential for larger randomized trials to confirm these findings.
