TLDR Dutasteride is effective for treating hair loss.
Dutasteride, a dual 5-alpha reductase inhibitor (5ARI), is emerging as a popular treatment option for androgenetic alopecia (AGA) due to its effective therapeutic impact. AGA, characterized by a gradual loss of scalp hair density mediated by dihydrotestosterone (DHT), affects genetically susceptible hair follicles, leading to hair thinning and loss, particularly at the hairline and top of the head. This review highlights the efficacy of dutasteride in treating AGA, supported by a comprehensive search of recent studies and reviews from PubMed, Google Scholar, and Science Direct.
