TLDR A 5% DMSO and 5% BSA mix best preserves rabbit dermal papilla cells during cryopreservation.
The study investigated the impact of dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) on rabbit dermal papilla cell cultures during cryopreservation, focusing on mitotic index (MI) and pathological mitoses. It found that DMSO concentrations of 10% or higher significantly increased pathological mitoses and reduced MI, with higher concentrations halting cell proliferation by the second passage. However, combining 5% DMSO with 5% bovine serum albumin (BSA) minimized these toxic effects, suggesting this combination as optimal for preserving the genetic stability of dermal papilla cells in cryopreservation media.
