TLDR Additive markers are most common and crucial for text coherence.
This study analyzed 81 discourse markers in a news article from The Jakarta Post, identifying 54 additive, 7 adversative, 7 causal, and 3 temporal markers. The findings highlight the prevalence of additive markers and underscore the importance of discourse markers in creating coherence in written texts. The research calls for further studies and improved training in discourse analysis to enhance reader and listener comprehension.
