TLDR Women often choose food based on taste and availability, not health benefits, leading to a lack of awareness about healthy eating.
The research paper "Women Roles for Healthy Lifestyles through Good Foods" by Umi Oktyari Retnaningsih, conducted in Indonesia, explores the role of women in promoting healthy lifestyles through good food choices. The study involved 45 participants, including 15 career women, 15 housewives, and 15 female students/graduates. The research found that despite the significant role women play in domestic work, particularly cooking, many tend to overlook the importance of food selection and processing for daily consumption. The study revealed that taste, preference for local foods, and availability largely influence food selection. However, there is a lack of awareness about the health benefits of food, leading to a diet focused on feeling full, personal preference, happiness, or prestige. The study also found that knowledge and awareness of organic and healthy foods are low, and many women do not recognize or consume tropical natural foodstuffs, including healthy vegetables and fruits, which are beneficial for immunity.
