Factors Affecting the Implementation of Canal Blocking Development as a Fire Prevention Solution in River Village Tohor Regency

    TLDR Canal blocking development for fire prevention in Sungai Tohor is influenced by government rules, community involvement, public awareness, and local knowledge.
    As of 2016, forest and burning land in Riau Province had reached 3,218 hectares, with the highest number of fires in Rokan Hilir Regency. The study aimed to identify and analyze factors influencing the development of canal blocking as a peat land fire prevention solution in Sungai Tohor village, Kepulauan Meranti regency. The research, which was qualitative and explorative, found that the construction of canal blocking was influenced by several factors. These included government regulation, community participation, public awareness, and local wisdom of peat communities. The community's role was crucial as they were the ones who felt the benefits of the canal blocking and were responsible for maintaining the sustainability of peat lands, which were the source of their livelihood.
