TLDR Krill oil may help reduce prostate enlargement and growth.
This study explored the effects of krill oil (KO) on benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) both in vitro and in vivo. KO was found to inhibit the proliferation of prostate cells by inducing G0/G1 phase arrest and modulating key signaling pathways, including JNK and p38. It also affected the expression of BPH-related markers and reduced the activity of the NF-κB binding motif. In a rat model of BPH, KO administration reduced prostate size, weight, and gland thickness, and altered dihydrotestosterone levels and marker expression in prostate tissues. Histological analysis confirmed KO's inhibitory effects on prostatic growth, suggesting its potential as a prophylactic or therapeutic agent for BPH.
