TLDR Bariatric surgery improves health but often causes hair loss and vitamin deficiency.
This prospective study involving 185 individuals who underwent bariatric surgery aimed to assess recovery and complications related to obesity. Postoperative complications were observed in 18.4% of participants, with hair loss (66.4%) and vitamin deficiency (55.1%) being the most common issues. Despite these complications, significant improvements were reported in psychological (60.5%), joint (48.6%), eating, and respiratory problems (46.4%; 43.2%). No significant relationship was found between the type of surgery and the need for revision surgery, complications, psychological support, or vitamin supplement use. The study underscores the importance of long-term health monitoring for bariatric surgery patients.
