TLDR Finasteride may help reduce symptoms in male Tourette syndrome patients.
The document describes a study on the effects of finasteride on patients with Tourette syndrome (TS), involving 10 patients. The study found that finasteride significantly reduced the severity of global symptoms, total tics, motor tics, and phonic tics, with p-values less than .0001. For the 6 patients with obsessive-compulsive symptoms, there was a significant reduction in total scores and compulsion subscale scores on the Yale-Brown Obsessive Compulsive Scale (Y-BOCS), with p-values of .028, but no significant change in obsession subscale scores (p = .068). The results indicate that finasteride may be a potential treatment for adult male patients with TS, suggesting the need for further controlled studies.
