Dermoscopy and Ultraviolet-Enhanced Fluorescence Dermoscopy Increase the Accuracy of Diagnosis and Are Useful in Assessing the Effectiveness of Kerion Celsi Treatment

    TLDR Advanced dermoscopy techniques improve diagnosis and treatment monitoring for Kerion celsi but don't guarantee full hair regrowth.
    The case report focuses on an 8-year-old girl with Kerion celsi, a severe form of tinea capitis, which led to significant hair loss. Diagnosis was improved using dermoscopy and ultraviolet-enhanced fluorescence dermoscopy (UEFD), which helped identify and monitor the infection. Treatment with topical ciclopirox and oral terbinafine over 12 weeks reduced inflammation and promoted hair regrowth. The study underscores the importance of early diagnosis with advanced dermoscopic techniques to prevent scarring alopecia in children. While these methods are beneficial, they do not replace standard mycological examinations. Despite treatment, full hair restoration was not achieved, highlighting the uncertain prognosis for hair regrowth after Kerion celsi.
