TLDR Most cutaneous adnexal tumors examined were benign and resembled common skin tumors.
The systematic review "Dermoscopy of cutaneous adnexal tumours" analyzed 206 articles, covering 372 adnexal tumours (ATs) in 365 patients. The majority of ATs were apocrine-eccrine (58.3%, n=217), followed by follicular ATs (23.7%, n=88) and sebaceous ATs (18.0%, n=67). Histopathological analysis showed 82% benign (n=305) and 18.0% malignant (n=67). The study found that ATs can mimic common skin tumours like basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, melanocytic lesions and benign cutaneous lesions. The review also detailed the dermoscopic features of various types of skin tumors, including their color, structure, and vessel appearance. The study's limitation was the selective inclusion of lesions with dermoscopic pictures available and reliance on the diagnosis provided by the authors of the included articles.
