TLDR Dermatophytosis in calves is most common in winter, especially in 4-6 month-old female HF crossbreds.
This study investigated the prevalence of dermatophytosis in 2007 calves under one year old in the Tarai region of Uttarakhand, India, finding an overall prevalence of 29.34%. The highest prevalence was in calves aged 4-6 months (39.71%) and in female calves (31.76%). HF crossbreds showed the highest breed-wise prevalence (42.67%), and the condition was most common in winter (50.96%). The study highlights that age, sex, breed, season, and rearing environment influence dermatophytosis prevalence, suggesting that control strategies should focus on improving hygiene, housing, and management, particularly during high-risk seasons and among susceptible groups.
