TLDR Ringworm in dairy calves can spread to humans.
Persistent dermatomycosis caused by Trichophyton verrucosum affected 20 dairy calves aged 3 months to 1 year, resulting in extensive alopecia and thick hairless skin patches on various body parts. The infection spread to 2 animal attendants, who developed circumscribed, itchy skin lesions. While the calves showed poor response to topical anti-fungal treatments over 17 weeks, the attendants responded well to anti-fungal ointment. This case highlighted the potential for ringworm in dairy animals to spread to humans, a previously unreported occurrence in Kenya.
