TLDR Kerion is a rare but serious scalp infection that needs proper treatment.
Kerion, a severe scalp infection resulting from tinea capitis, was reported in a 6-year-old boy of African origin who presented with a 6-month history of scalp infection unresponsive to initial treatments. The infection, characterized by inflamed, pus-filled lesions and scaly patches, was treated with oral Itraconazole, Nizoral Shampoo, Paraffin Gel, and oral steroids. This case highlighted the rarity of kerion in the paediatric department, particularly in an Irish context, and underscored the importance of recognizing and appropriately treating this condition.
