TLDR Obese people are more likely to have certain skin conditions like dark patches, stretch marks, skin tags, and bumpy skin.
The study compared skin conditions in 100 obese individuals (BMI ≥ 30) with 100 non-obese individuals and found that the most common dermatological manifestations in the obese group were acanthosis nigricans, striae distensae, acrochordons, and keratosis pilaris. Obese individuals also showed signs of hyperandrogenism and a higher incidence of cutaneous infections. The research highlighted the need for a multidisciplinary approach to address the dermatological issues and associated distress in obese patients. However, the authors acknowledged that the small sample size might limit the generalizability of the results, suggesting the necessity for larger studies.
