TLDR Training programs for aesthetic plastic surgeons should consider demographic and organizational factors.
The study surveyed aesthetic plastic surgeons in Guangdong, China, to assess their demographic status and training needs. It found minimal demographic differences between surgeons in private and government hospitals, with over 60% transitioning from other specialties and one-third having less than three years of experience. Most surgeons expressed a strong desire for continuing education, preferring short, focused courses in tertiary hospitals on topics like rhinoplasty and new technologies. Government hospitals emphasized repair and reconstructive surgery and academic research, while private hospitals were more market-driven. The study concludes that training programs should consider these demographic and organizational factors.
