TLDR Low-level laser therapy effectively prevents and treats oral mucositis.
The study reviewed 6 animal studies and 12 clinical studies over a decade, focusing on the use of low-level laser therapy (LLLT) or photobiomodulation (PBM) for treating oral mucositis caused by chemotherapy. The findings indicated that LLLT, particularly with near-infrared wavelengths, was effective in preventing mucositis, reducing pain, and promoting rapid recovery. The review also noted that various combined treatments were used, reinforcing the efficacy of LLLT as a viable treatment option for oral mucositis.
