TLDR Cyclosporine combined with other treatments can help hair regrow in severe alopecia areata, but it may cause side effects.
The study evaluated the effectiveness of oral cyclosporine combined with other treatments in 28 patients with severe or refractory alopecia areata. Results showed that 71% of patients experienced new hair growth within an average of 2.5 months. However, 47% of patients experienced side effects, including hypertrichosis and gastrointestinal disturbances, leading to therapy discontinuation in 3 cases. Despite these side effects, cyclosporine combination therapy was recommended for severe cases, with careful monitoring to prevent severe adverse effects. Additionally, the document discussed diabetic foot ulcer management, emphasizing a multidisciplinary approach to improve healing and reduce amputation risk.
