TLDR PCOS often causes acne, dark skin patches, excess hair, and hair loss, linked to hormone levels and obesity.
This study focused on the cutaneous manifestations of Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) in 87 women over 18 months, examining their correlation with hormonal levels. The most common skin-related symptoms were acne (64.3%), acanthosis nigricans (47.1%), hirsutism (41.4%), and alopecia (13.8%). Hormonal analysis revealed elevated total testosterone in 18.6% of patients, with significant correlations found between LH levels and acne (p=0.036), the LH:FSH ratio and acne (p=0.047), and LH levels and hair loss (p=0.027). Additionally, acanthosis nigricans was significantly associated with obesity (p=0.001).
