TLDR Skin problems like acne and excessive hair growth are common in people with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, especially those with 15-16 follicles in their ovaries.
The study "Correlation of cutaneous findings and sonographic ovarian morphology in polycystic ovarian syndrome" conducted a cross-sectional, observational analysis of 50 subjects with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS). The study found that 80% of the patients experienced menstrual disorders and the most common cutaneous manifestations were acne and hirsutism. The majority of the subjects, 48%, had ovaries with a follicular number of 15-16, and all cutaneous manifestations were significantly increased in these patients. Additionally, 56% of cases had elevated free testosterone levels, which correlated significantly with the number of follicles. However, there was no correlation found between the number of follicles in the ovaries and the cutaneous features.
