TLDR Weight loss from bariatric surgery improved certain skin conditions.
This study, involving 61 obese subjects who underwent bariatric surgery, aimed to assess the cutaneous changes before and after the procedure. The mean age of the subjects was 44.4±13.284 years and the surgery resulted in a significant decrease in BMI from 40.3 (38.25-42.70) kg/m^2 to 32.0 (30-35) kg/m^2. The most common skin conditions seen in the subjects were acanthosis nigricans (27.9%), acrochordon (24.6%), and intertrigo (16.4%). The study found no significant difference in the prevalence of various skin conditions/diseases before and after the surgery except for intertrigo, tinea corporis, and striae rubra. The study concluded that weight loss after bariatric surgery led to an improvement in skin conditions/diseases.
