TLDR Hair follicle stem cells can be cultured, but better methods are needed for longer growth.
This study aimed to locate the hair bulge area and develop basic technology for culturing hair follicle stem cells. Hair root samples were obtained from plastic surgery, and the putative stem cells were cultured in a specific medium. Hoechst dye staining confirmed the presence of numerous cells in the bulge area, and the stem cells successfully outgrew from this area for up to four days. The study suggested that further research was needed to improve the culture environment to extend the duration of cell culture.

PP405 is discussed as a potential hair growth stimulant, possibly more effective than minoxidil, but not a cure for hair loss. There is skepticism about its ability to regrow "deadzones," and concerns about its impact on those with hair transplants.

Scalp biopsies are crucial for diagnosing hair loss conditions like Diffuse Unpatterned Alopecia (DUPA) and retrograde hair loss, as treatments like finasteride and dutasteride may not be effective if other conditions are present. Combining PPAR-GAMMA agonists with retinoids could improve treatments for conditions like Lichen Planopilaris.

Treatments for hair loss, including finasteride, dutasteride, minoxidil, ketoconazole, microneedling, and low level laser light therapy, which aim to reduce DHT production, increase cell absorption and blood flow, and stimulate epidermal stem cells. It also stresses the importance of patience when using these treatments.

Increased Malassezia and Cutibacterium in the scalp microbiome are linked to higher sebum production and inflammation in androgenetic alopecia (AGA). Treatments include ciclopirox shampoo, benzoyl peroxide shampoo, clobetasol propionate, calcipotriol, minoxidil, finasteride, and dutasteride.
