Cotton Honeydew (Gossypium Hirsutum L.) Extract Offers Interesting Properties for Hair Cosmetics and Care Products

The study investigated the effects of cotton honeydew extract, which contains various oligosaccharides, on human hair. Clinical and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) studies demonstrated that a 1% cotton honeydew extract rinse-off mask improved the ultrastructure of both normal and damaged hair. Treated hair showed smoother cuticle scales and was less prone to chipping compared to untreated hair, which appeared dry and damaged. A clinical study with 15 volunteers confirmed that the extract-treated hair was significantly smoother. Additionally, mRNA studies indicated that the extract stimulated keratin synthesis. These findings suggested that cotton honeydew extract could be beneficial in hair care products and cosmetics.
