TLDR RDW can be a useful marker for inflammation in alopecia areata patients.
This study evaluated 170 patients with alopecia areata to investigate the correlation between red cell distribution width (RDW), autoimmunity, and nail involvement. The results showed that RDW levels were significantly higher in patients with nail involvement and a history of autoimmune disease. The study concluded that RDW could serve as a simple, inexpensive, and accessible marker of inflammation in alopecia areata patients.

Combining PPAR-GAMMA agonists with retinoids could improve treatments for conditions like Lichen Planopilaris.
