TLDR Laminin-511 may help promote hair growth, while laminin-332 does not affect hair loss.
The study from 13 years ago focused on the expression of laminin-511 and laminin-332 during the catagen phase of the hair cycle in mice. It was discovered that laminin-511 expression decreases during catagen, which may play a role in hair regression, while laminin-332 expression remains stable but redistributes around the hair follicle basement membrane. Functional tests indicated that injecting laminin-511-rich protein extract delayed catagen progression, suggesting a potential role in promoting hair growth, whereas laminin-332 injections did not affect catagen. The findings imply that increasing laminin-511 or decreasing laminin-332 could be beneficial for treating hair loss conditions like AGA, FAGA, and CTE, although further research is necessary to fully understand the mechanisms involved.
