Congenital and Hereditary Skin Diseases in Bovines
January 2018
TLDR Bovines can have rare inherited skin diseases with specific symptoms like hair loss, fragile skin, and abnormal porphyrin buildup.
The chapter reviewed various congenital and hereditary skin diseases in bovines, including hypotrichosis, which involved reduced hair and underdeveloped hair follicles, and follicular dysplasia, characterized by varying hair loss and follicle abnormalities. Cutaneous asthenia described inherited collagen dysplasias with fragile, easily torn skin. Epidermolysis bullosa involved vesicle and bulla formation after minor trauma. Ichthyosis encompassed disorders of keratinization, and porphyria was marked by abnormal porphyrin accumulation due to defective synthesis. These conditions were rare and presented with distinct clinical and histopathological features.
