Comparison of Effects on Gene Expression Activity of Low-Molecular-Weight Lychee Fruit Polyphenol (Oligonol®), Adenosine, and Minoxidil in Human Dermal Papilla Cells

    TLDR Lychee fruit polyphenol (Oligonol®) may regulate genes linked to cell growth and inflammation in human scalp cells.
    The 2017 study investigated the effects of Low-Molecular-Weight Lychee Fruit Polyphenol (Oligonol®), Adenosine, and Minoxidil on human dermal papilla cells at the genetic level. The substances were applied to human dermal papilla cell lines for 24 hours, and the expressions of VEGF, FGF-7, WNT5a, and WNT10a mRNA were measured. The results showed that FGF-7 and WNT10a mRNA expression were observed in cells supplemented with 100 µg/mL Oligonol®. Additionally, DNA microarray analysis showed that Oligonol® suppressed 10 inflammation-related genes. The study concluded that Oligonol® could potentially affect the function of human dermal papilla cells by regulating the expression of genes related to cell proliferation and inflammation.
