TLDR Vitiligo patients often have other health issues, especially thyroid disorders.
The study retrospectively analyzed 3,280 vitiligo patients from 2000 to 2011, identifying 2,441 true cases. Women (57.6%) and White/Caucasian individuals (56.9%) were more frequently represented. Comorbid autoimmune conditions were found in 23% of patients, with thyroid disorders (287 cases) and psoriasis (186 cases) being the most common. Elevated anti-nuclear antibody levels were present in 41% of patients, and over 50% had low or insufficient 25-OH vitamin D levels. The study concluded that there was a high prevalence of comorbidities among vitiligo patients, suggesting the need for screening, particularly for thyroid disorders.
