TLDR Herbal extracts and platelet-rich plasma together may help increase hair growth by making certain cells grow more, through specific cell growth pathways.
In the 2013 study by Rastegar et al., the combination of herbal extracts and platelet-rich plasma (PRP) was found to significantly promote the proliferation of human dermal papilla cells (DPCs), which are important for hair growth. The treatment, which involved concentrations of herbal extracts ranging from 1.5% to 4.5% combined with 10% PRP, resulted in a dose-dependent increase in DPC proliferation. This effect was linked to the upregulation of cyclin D1 and Cdk4 proteins and increased phosphorylation of ERK and Akt signaling pathways, which are known to be associated with cell growth and survival. These findings suggest that the combination of herbal extracts and PRP could be a potential therapy for enhancing hair growth by stimulating DPC proliferation through the ERK and Akt pathways. The number of DPC samples or participants was not specified in the summary.
