TLDR DM and AA may share a common cause.
A 9-year-old girl with juvenile dermatomyositis (DM) and alopecia areata (AA) showed significant improvement in both conditions after treatment with methotrexate and prednisolone. The coexistence of DM and AA, previously unreported, suggested a potential common etiological link, possibly involving interferon-α (IFN-α) and immune responses. The study highlighted the need for further research into the pathogenesis of these immune-mediated diseases.
