TLDR Most skin cysts were common types found in unusual body parts, and examining tissue samples is important for accurate diagnosis.
The study analyzed 185 cases of cutaneous cysts to determine their prevalence and unusual presentations, with a focus on clinico-histopathological correlation. The majority of these cysts were epidermal cysts (75.13%), followed by dermoid cysts (18.38%), and they were found in atypical locations such as the palm, lower extremity, breast, floor of the mouth, gluteal region, scalp, and back. Notably, two cases of scrotal epidermal cysts were linked to idiopathic calcinosis of the scrotum. Other rare occurrences included a proliferating trichilemmal cyst and an apocrine hidrocystoma on the back, as well as cysticercosis on the scalp. Inflammatory changes were observed in 27 cases (14.59%). The study achieved a high clinicopathological correlation rate of 91.89% (170/185 cases), emphasizing that histopathological analysis is crucial for definitive diagnosis, especially when cutaneous cysts present in unusual locations.
