Correlation of Clinical Profile and Anthropometry Factors With Free Androgen Index in Evaluation of Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome

Ushadevi Gopalan, Vardhani Varadhan, Karthika Mayilvahanan
TLDR The Free Androgen Index is important for diagnosing PCOS due to its strong link with symptoms and risk factors.
This study involving 92 women with polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) found that the Free Androgen Index (FAI) is a significant diagnostic marker for PCOS, showing strong associations with clinical symptoms such as irregular menstrual cycles, hirsutism, acne, androgen alopecia, and acanthosis nigricans. The results suggest that higher FAI values correlate with these symptoms and metabolic risk factors, emphasizing the importance of FAI in PCOS diagnosis. The study calls for larger, multicentric research to further validate these findings and enhance PCOS screening and management strategies.
