TLDR Androgenetic alopecia is the most common hair loss, more severe in men, and best treated with a combination of hair growth promoters and antiandrogens.
Androgenetic alopecia, a hereditary disorder influenced by androgens, was identified as the most common form of alopecia, affecting 23-87% of the population. It was noted to be more severe in men, presenting as central alopecia, while women experienced diffuse thinning. The sudden onset of alopecia in individuals with inflammatory scalp diseases suggested multiple causes, including inflammatory cells, cytokines, growth factors, and stromal cell interactions. Treatment strategies were most effective when combining hair growth promoters, antiandrogens, and androgen blockade agents.
