TLDR Trichogerminoma is a rare, benign skin tumor from hair cells, with a small risk of becoming cancerous.
Trichogerminoma is a rare cutaneous follicular neoplasm, with about 30 cases reported since its first description in 1992. This case study involves a 47-year-old female with a nodule on her left buttock, histologically characterized by basaloid cell lobules and a higher-than-usual Ki67 proliferative rate (20%). Immunohistochemistry showed positivity for markers such as pan-CK, CK5/6, p40, and GATA 3. Despite its benign nature, complete excision is recommended due to a small risk of malignancy. The case highlights the importance of distinguishing trichogerminoma from similar tumors like trichoblastoma and basal cell carcinoma.
