TLDR Cephalexin effectively treats canine bacterial dermatitis, showing improvement within 72 hours.
The study involved 29 dogs with bacterial dermatitis, characterized by symptoms such as multifocal alopecia, erythema, and pustules. Staphylococcus spp. was identified as the primary causative agent. Cephalexin showed the highest antibacterial sensitivity and was used to treat 13 dogs, while Ciprofloxacin and Erythromycin were used for 9 and 7 dogs, respectively. Improvement was observed within 72 hours of treatment. The study also noted significant decreases in haemoglobin, packed cell volume, and total erythrocyte count, along with leucocytosis and neutrophilia, but no significant changes in total protein, calcium, phosphorus, sodium, potassium, and glucose levels.
