TLDR Combining β-sitosterol nanoparticles with laser therapy may effectively stimulate hair growth in androgenetic alopecia.
This study explored a novel therapeutic approach for androgenetic alopecia (AAG) by combining β-sitosterol (BS) nanoparticles with laser therapy (LBP). The BS, known for its anti-inflammatory properties and ability to modulate the enzyme 5-α-reductase, was encapsulated in nanoparticles to enhance follicular penetration and prolong release. The study found that these nanoparticles, when combined with LBP, did not induce cytotoxicity or irritation and protected against BS-induced cytotoxicity. In a testosterone-induced AAG animal model, the combination of BS-containing nanoparticles and LBP showed improved hair growth stimulation. This combination was proposed as a promising treatment for AAG.
