TLDR Croton membranaceus root extract can change how drugs are processed in the body.
The study investigated the effects of Croton membranaceus root extract on liver drug-metabolizing enzymes in a rat model of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). Using 15 castrated testosterone-induced BPH male Albino Wister rats, the research found that the extract significantly induced phase I enzyme CYP1A2 and phase II enzyme GSTM1, while inhibiting phase I enzymes CYP3A4 and CYP2D6. These findings suggested that Croton membranaceus could alter drug metabolism, indicating that caution should be exercised when using this phytotherapy alongside other medications.
