TLDR Botulinum toxin type A may help treat hidradenitis suppurativa.
Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) is a chronic inflammatory skin disease characterized by painful lesions, primarily in areas with numerous apocrine glands. The disease's etiology involves genetic, inflammatory, microbial, and lifestyle factors. Traditional treatments, including antibiotics, retinoids, biologics, and surgery, show variable efficacy. Recent reports indicated that botulinum toxin type A injections could be beneficial in managing HS. This review explored the pathogenesis, clinical manifestations, and traditional treatments of HS, and investigated botulinum toxin type A as a promising treatment option.
