TLDR Protected areas can help increase ikan bilih populations and benefit fishermen.
The study focused on the declining population of ikan bilih (Mystacoleucus padangensis), an endemic fish species in Danau Singkarak, due to environmental degradation and overfishing. Efforts to boost the population included fish stocking, but these were not successful. As an alternative, protected areas were established to facilitate natural recruitment by serving as spawning routes. The study suggested that with proper management and community oversight, these protected areas could significantly benefit fishermen by increasing fish catches and preserving the species.
