TLDR Men with alopecia areata have different body proportions, with shorter legs and longer upper bodies.
The study examined 81 young Ukrainian men with alopecia areata and compared their body dimensions to 82 healthy controls. Results showed that men with alopecia areata had significantly greater body mass, body surface area, acromial height, and digit anthropometric points, but lower pubic and trochanteric heights, indicating shorter lower limbs and longer upper limbs and torso. These differences suggest a "subpathological" constitutional type. No significant differences were found among patients with different severity levels of alopecia areata. The findings imply both genetic and environmental factors contribute to the disease's development.
