TLDR Body and beard hair can be used for hair transplants in baldness treatment but keep their original color and curl.
In a study conducted between 2005 and 2008, 35 male patients with varying degrees of androgenic alopecia underwent hair transplants using body and beard hair as donor sources. The transplanted hair was observed over intervals of 6 months to 2 years to assess any changes in color, curl, and calibre. The study found that the transplanted body and beard hair maintained their original characteristics post-transplantation. The results indicated that body and beard hair could serve as additional donor resources for treating androgenic alopecia, but proper planning is essential due to the unchanged characteristics of the transplanted hair. The study concluded that while body and beard hair are viable options for hair restoration, they do not alter their color, curl, or shaft diameter after being transplanted to the scalp. Further research is suggested to explore the effects of transplanting body and facial hair to the scalp on growth cycles and hair length.
