TLDR Biotin boosts wool growth and follicle health in sheep.
The study investigated the role of biotin in wool growth by culturing sheep hair follicles in vitro, using skin samples from three Suffolk wether lambs. It found that biotin supplementation significantly increased wool shaft elongation and follicle viability, with the highest response at 0.5 mg L-¹. ATP concentration and protein synthesis were also significantly higher in follicles with 0.5 mg L-¹ biotin, although DNA concentration per follicle was unaffected. The study concluded that biotin played a crucial role in enhancing wool follicle growth and viability in vitro.

A 47-year-old male experienced significant hair loss after losing 37 kg in 6 months on a low-carb diet and started taking biotin, zinc, iron, selenium, and spectral dcn-n. Replies suggest that while carbs are not directly needed for hair growth, they help regulate hormones and nutrient absorption, and rapid weight loss can also contribute to hair loss.

The user has been using a combination of finasteride and minoxidil for 5 months and is considering adding dutasteride due to slow progress. They plan to alternate between oral finasteride and dutasteride to save costs and are advised to continue the treatment for more time, possibly adding tretinoin, while considering a hair transplant if results remain unsatisfactory.

Procapil is marketed as a natural hair loss treatment but lacks strong evidence and is industry-biased. Minoxidil and Finasteride are the only FDA-approved treatments for androgenetic alopecia.
